I wrote Moon Bear while working on my Masters degree in Holistic Science at Schumacher College. I was in the middle of a three-week course on Development with Vandana Shiva. I think this story came out of a desire to address the issues of environmental degradation on a deeper level. The teachings and discussions were all intellectual. I felt that if I wanted to truly reach people and encourage them to transform their actions I had engage not just the head, but the heart too. Stories are one of the best ways to touch the heart. What we need to address global warming is not more facts and figures, what we need is the resolve of the heart – knowing without a doubt that we have the knowledge in our hearts to be the one that is part of the One.
